Platts clarifies Chicago pipeline gasoline assessments reflect Illinois specifications

HIGHLIGHTS

In response to changes in Wisconsin gasoline specifications, Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, would like to clarify that its generic Chicago pipeline gasoline assessments reflect the lowest value between the Badger, West Shore and Wolverine pipelines for product delivered in Chicago and meeting Illinois specifications.

In the Platts Market On Close assessment process, existing instruments in the eWindow communication tool may be used to publish bids, offers and trades for Chicago gasoline matching this methodology. Bids, offers and trades for specifications other than Illinois cannot be published using existing eWindow instruments but may be published manually and may be normalized for assessment purposes.

Badger and West Shore pipelines run from Chicago into Wisconsin, which adopted a rule effective March 1, 2024, that requires finished fuels to meet the ASTM-4814 21a, including the T50 and TV/L requirement standard mirroring Illinois specifications.

Platts will continue publishing the separate CBOB gasoline assessment for Wolverine Pipeline, while also including Wolverine as part of the basket of pipelines making up the generic Chicago assessment.

Platts will continue to observe the Chicago market evolution and collect feedback about any changes.
