Platts proposes to express hourly US Renewable Penetration Indices as percentages

S&P Global Platts proposes to start expressing hourly wind and solar Renewable Penetration Indices (RPI) in the US as percentages, effective May 17, 2021.

As part of the change, Platts proposes to discontinue the existing RPI symbols, which are expressed as decimals, and to replace them with a new set of corresponding indices, expressed as percentages. Under the current proposal, the last publication day for the existing symbols would be May 16, 2021.

There would be no change in the underlying methodology, which is described in full here https://www.spglobal.com/platts/PlattsContent/_assets/_files/en/our-methodology/methodology-specifications/us_power_method.pdf (page 23).

The change would affect the following symbols:

California ISO RPI Solar Hr (1-24): RPCSA(01-24)

California ISO RPI Wind Hr (1-24): RPCWA(01-24)

Southwest Power Pool RPI Solar Hr (1-24): RPSSA(01-24)

Southwest Power Pool RPI Wind Hr (1-24): RPSWA(01-24)

ERCOT RPI Solar Hr (1-24): RPESA(01-24)

ERCOT RPI Wind Hr (1-24): RPEWA(01-24)

MISO RPI Solar Hr (1-24): RPMSA(01-24)

These indices are published in Megawatt Daily, Platts Energy Trader, and on fixed pages AGP2903 and PEA0903.
