S&P Global Platts proposes to change the cargo size on two dry bulk Panamax grains freight assessments, from New Orleans to Qingdao, North China and from New Orleans to Fangcheng, South China from 60,000 mt to 66,000 mt. The proposed effective date is May 1, 2018.
Platts would normalize rates seen for any other cargo size on these routes to 66,000 mt basis. Platts understands that the larger size has become more common on US Gulf to China front-haul grains runs in order to optimize stem capacity on Panamax vessels.
The assessments appear in Dry Freight Wire under codes GRNOQ00 and GRNOF00 respectively.
