Platts has reviewed requests from participants in the European ethanol market to include greenhouse gas emissions savings into the Sustainability Criteria published in Platts European methodology and specifications guide for fuel grade ethanol. Platts proposes to include a mention of 35% GHG savings effective April 1, 2011. The proposed addition shall be incorporated as follows (see point 4):
Platts will only consider bids, offers and transactions where, upon buyer's request, the seller shall exercise reasonable efforts to provide documentation describing:
1) the ethanol feedstock type 2) the country of origin of the feedstock 3) a declaration of land use on which feedstock was grown on or after January 1, 2008 4) at least 35% greenhouse gas emission savings compared to fossil fuels. Fuel ethanol produced by installations that were in operation on January 23, 2008, are exempt from this clause until April 1, 2013.
For full details of the Sustainability Criteria, please refer to Platts European methodology and specifications guide for fuel grade ethanol at http://www.platts.com/MethodologyAndSpecifications/Oil. Please direct any queries to petchems@platts.com and pricegroup@platts.com.
