Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has decided the following changes to its ammonia methodology, effective March 1, 2023.
The changes would align Platts' ammonia coverage globally with legacy Fertecon ammonia assessments.
The update will impact all pricing regions, which are CFR Far East Asia, FOB Middle East, CFR Northwest Europe, FOB Black Sea, and CFR US Gulf Coast. This will impact spot, front-month assessments, blue ammonia prices, as well as all blue ammonia premiums with the exception of the USGC, which will continue to be published at 1:30 Central time.
Assessment window: 4:30 pm London time for all locations.
Timing: Daily assessments for all locations for parcels to be delivered one to six weeks forward from the date of publication.
Additional changes as follows:
CFR Far East Asia:
Basis location: Ammonia-importing ports/terminals in China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam
Typical cargo size of 6,000-15,000 mt
CFR Northwest Europe:
Basis location: Ammonia-importing ports/terminals in Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the UK
Typical cargo size of 10,000-25,000 mt
CFR USGC:
Basis location: All ammonia-importing ports/terminals in the US Gulf Coast states of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi
Typical cargo size of 10,000-25,000 mt
FOB Middle East:
Basis location: Ammonia-exporting ports/terminals in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE
Typical cargo size of 10,000-25,000 mt
FOB Black Sea
Basis location: Major ports that can accommodate ammonia cargoes in Ukraine
Typical cargo size of 10,000-25,000 mt.
For all regions, other locations may be used when reflective of the market and normalized. For the European market, Platts assessments represent duty-free and duty paid cargoes. Cargoes incurring any duty may be normalized as part of the European assessment process.
