SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts to discontinue three Asia nonferrous metals assessments

Following a period of industry feedback, S&P Global Platts will discontinue its weekly nonferrous assessments of silicon 553 grade FOB China (MMAJF00), magnesium 99.8% FOB China (AAVSK00) and magnesium diecast alloy FOB China (MMDCH04), on May 1, 2019, due to changes in market liquidity and thin export spot trades.

The last assessment day would be Thursday, April 25, 2019 for silicon 553 grade FOB China, and Friday, April 26, 2019 for magnesium 99.8% and magnesium diecast alloy FOB China.

With this change, Platts will also cease to publish the monthly averages of silicon 553 grade (MMAJF03), magnesium 99.8% (AAVSK03) and magnesium diecast alloy (MMDCH03). These are auto calculated prices based on the weekly assessments for these metals.

Market participants provided feedback stating that due to a change in liquidity and trading patterns, these prices are no longer the most relevant pricing basis and do not serve a purpose as an industry reference anymore.
