Effective February 4, 2016, Platts has launched four weekly price assessments for Mexican domestic aluminum scrap to be assessed every Thursday. The products are old cast, old sheet, UBC and 6063 new bare extrusion scrap. The launch follows industry feedback that these prices are needed to bring transparency to the current spot market in Mexico, driven by rising secondary alloys production to meet booming activity in the automotive sector. The assessments are published in both pesos/kg and cents/pound, basis delivered Northeastern Mexico, with a typical volume of 20 mt, delivery within 30 days from the date of transaction, payment net-30 days. The full methodology and specifications are available at www.platts.com. The assessments are available in Platts Metals Daily (page 3), Platts Metals Week, Platts Metals Alert (PMA page 201) and in Market Data category MM. Any further questions should be directed to henrique.ribeiro@platts.com; karen.mcbeth@platts.com and pricegroup@platts.com.
