Platts lowers minimum average grain length for certain Indian white and parboiled non-Basmati rice assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has amended its specifications for some daily Indian white and parboiled non-Basmati rice assessments to reflect a minimum average grain length of 5.7 mm rather than the previous 6 mm, effective Feb. 1.

Platts decided to amend its specifications to reflect an average grain length minimum of 5.7 mm for some of its Indian rice assessments Jan. 4, following a period of consultation: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/010423-platts-decides-to-lower-some-indian-white-and-parboiled-non-basmati-rice-assessments-minimum-average-grain-length-to-57-m

Platts first proposed the amendment on Dec. 14, available here: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/121422-platts-proposes-to-lower-some-indian-white-and-parboiled-non-basmati-rice-assessments-minimum-average-grain-length-to-57-, to better reflect market liquidity, enable Platts to incorporate more data points into its Indian white and parboiled non-Basmati rice assessments and provide an improved picture of the value of rice traded out of Kakinada.

The following assessments will be affected

India Long Grain White Rice 5% Broken FOB (LRCAB00)

India Long Grain White Rice 25% Broken FOB (LRCBE00)

India Long Grain Parboiled Milled Rice 5% STX FOB (LRCFG00)

These assessments are published on Platts Agricultural Alert page PAA3000, PAA2401 and PAA3003 and in the Rice Daily and Rice Weekly report.
