Platts invites feedback on Waha index methodology

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has recognized that during periods of high demand, Oneok, Westex trades at a premium to other locations in the Waha index.

Platts invites feedback on its current methodology of the Waha index.

The current methodology includes deliveries into interstate and intrastate pipelines at the outlet of the Waha header system in the Permian Basin in West Texas.

Pipelines and locations include El Paso Natural Gas, Transwestern Pipeline, Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America, Northern Natural Gas, Delhi Pipeline, Oasis Pipeline, Atmos Zone 1, Oneok Westex, Enterprise Texas Pipeline, Permian Highway Pipeline, and Gulf Coast Express Pipeline, but does not include Atmos Zone 3 or Tolar Hub.

When Oneok, Westex trades significantly higher than other locations included in the index, the overall index settles higher than it would if Oneok, Westex wasn't included.

For this reason, Platts is requesting feedback regarding whether or not to remove Oneok, Westex from the Waha index. Our Methodology and Specifications Guide can be found here.
