Platts extends consultation period on European sugar assessments

Following the launch of a consultation on S&P Global Platts European sugar assessments on Nov. 27, 2020, Platts is extending the period for feedback to April 30, 2021.

The consultation covers all Platts European sugar assessments, which are currently as follows:

Weekly assessments:

Western Europe – delivered (SGBBB00)

Mediterranean Europe – delivered (SGBBD00)

Germany – delivered (SGAEG04)

France – delivered (SGAEH04)

Netherlands – delivered (SGAEJ04)

Belgium – delivered (SGAEK04)

UK – delivered (SGAEF04)

North Italy – delivered (SGAEL04)

South Italy – delivered (SGAEM04)

Spain – delivered (SGAEN04)

Greece – delivered (SGAEP04)

IPR – 45ic imports in containers – CFR (SGBBE00)

Export price equivalent – ex-works (SGBCC00)

Daily assessment:

Containers EU 45 Premium – FAS Antwerp (SGAEA00)

Platts is seeking feedback on all aspects of these assessments, including the current range of assessments and the way that these are grouped into regional assessments. The Western Europe assessment is currently an average of the UK, Germany, France, Netherlands and Belgium assessments, while the Mediterranean Europe assessment is an average of the Italy, Spain and Greece assessments.

Platts is also seeking feedback on volumes for spot trades for the weekly Western Europe, Mediterranean Europe and EU country assessments. Currently, indications from 200 mt to 5,000 mt may be considered in the assessment, with the assessment normalized to reflect sugar delivered on a 3,000 to 5,000 mt size.

These assessments are currently published on a DDP basis.

Platts European sugar specifications can be found in pages 6-7 of the methodology document: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/PlattsContent/_assets/_files/en/our-methodology/methodology-specifications/sugar_methodology.pdf

Platts has now also announced a change to the name of the assessment currently known as "IPR – 45ic imports in containers – CNF" which can be found here (https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/012921-platts-clarifies-european-sugar-basis-updates-incoterm).
