Platts launches harmonization of European steel codes effective Feb. 1

Effective Feb. 1, 2021, S&P Global Platts has discontinued 12 European duplicate steel codes and their monthly averages as part of the project to harmonize the European steel methodology.

Platts originally proposed the changes on Oct. 23 and published a decision on Nov. 18. Platts continues databasing prices of relevant products under the remaining equivalent codes listed in the table below:

As part of the same project and effective Jan. 4, 2021, Platts already adopted a Market on Close methodology for its European hot-rolled coil (HRC) and cold-rolled coil (CRC) steel prices. The launch note published Jan. 4 can be found here.

The discontinued symbols were published in Steel Business Briefing, on Platts Metals Alert pages 1200, 1204, 1233 and in the Platts database.
