Following industry feedback, Platts proposes to discontinue the New Orleans to Alexandria Supramax grains freight assessment basis 50,000 mt, effective April 1, 2018.
Platts understands that trade from New Orleans to the Mediterranean began in earnest following drought in France in 2015. Since that time, however, the route has seen a significant reduction in volume and become illiquid.
This assessment appears in the Dry Freight Wire and under the code GRNOE00.
Platts initially proposed to discontinue the assessment in a note published on December 11, 2017 (https://www.platts.com/subscriber-notes-details/21787113). That note also proposed an implementation date of March 1, 2018.
