Platts to discontinue 2023 RIN, RVO assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will discontinue 2023 RIN values for Ethanol RINs (D6), Biomass based diesel RINs (D4), Cellulosic Biofuel RINs (D3) and Advanced Biofuel RINs (D5), effective Feb. 3, 2025.

This is in line with its methodology, where Platts states: the final publishing day for prior-year RIN assessments is the last publishing day of January two years after the RIN vintage, As such, Platts will stop publishing the 2023 RIN vintage as of the first working day of February.

The affected assessments are:

• Ethanol RIN (D6), published under lifetime code Cal-Year 2023 RD62023
• Biodiesel RIN (D4), published under lifetime code Cal-Year 2023 RD42023
• Cellulosic Biofuel RIN(D3), published under lifetime code Cal-Year 2023 RD32023
• Advanced Biofuel RIN (D5), published under lifetime code Cal-Year 2023 RD52023

In addition, the year 1 (previous year) rolling codes will then reflect the 2024 RIN assessments and the Year 2 (current year) rolling code will then reflect the 2025 RIN assessments:

• Advanced Biofuel RIN (D5) rolling code ABRCY01 will reflect the 2024 D5 RIN and the rolling code ABRCY02 will reflect the 2025 D5 RIN.
• Cellulosic Biofuel RIN (D3) rolling code CBRCY01 will reflect the 2024 and the rolling code CBRCY02 will reflect the 2025 D3 RIN.
• Biodiesel RIN (D4) rolling code BDRCY01 will reflect the 2024 D4 RIN and the rolling codeBDRCY02 will reflect the 2025 D4 RIN.
• Ethanol RIN (D6) rolling code RINCY01 will reflect the 2024 D6 RIN and the rolling codeRINCY02 will reflect the 2025 D6 RIN.

Platts also confirms that, in conjunction with the discontinuation of the 2023 RIN assessments, Platts will also discontinue the 2023 Renewable Volume Obligations calculation, under the code RVOY023.
