Platts extends feedback period for non-aromatics content in mixed xylene specification change proposal

In order to gain further feedback from the market, S&P Global Platts has decided to extend the feedback period related to the proposed change to increase the maximum non-aromatics content allowed in its European mixed xylene assessments.

The extended feedback period will conclude on February 14, 2020, and the proposed change would take effect on April 24, 2020.

Based on market feedback, Platts understands that a significant proportion of mixed xylene production in Europe does not consistently meet a maximum 2% non-aromatics content.

Furthermore, Platts understands that market participants consider material with a maximum non-aromatics content up to 3% to be widely traded in Europe and consumed for the production of paraxylene.

As a result of this feedback, Platts is proposing to change the maximum non-aromatics content in its mixed xylene assessments from 2% to 3%.

Platts also welcomes feedback on other MX specifications.
