Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has amended the minimum volume reflected in Platts CEC and Platts CNC voluntary carbon credit assessments to 1,000 mtCO2e from 5,000 mtCO2e and has introduce a maximum volume of 20,000 mtCO2e effective Jan. 3.
A proposal note originally published Oct. 21 is available here: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/102122-platts-proposes-amendment-to-platts-cec-and-cnc-volume-minimums-and-maximums
The decision note published Nov. 30 is available here: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/113022-platts-to-amend-platts-cec-and-cnc-volume-minimums-and-maximums
Under the previous methodology, Platts CEC and Platts CNC reflected bids, offers and transactions of 5,000 mtCO2e and above, with no maximum indicated within the assessment methodology.
Following the change, both assessments are measured in $/mtCO2e and represents one lot of 1,000 CO2e units each.
That will facilitate a closer alignment with volumes traded in the exchange-driven spot market, and the introduction of a maximum volume will better reflect the differences that transaction size may have on price.
