SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts to launch import parity prices for lithium carbonate, hydroxide

S&P Global Platts will launch import parity assessments for lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide CIF North Asia from February 1, 2019. Platts will assess both assessments on a weekly basis in line with its Lithium Carbonate CIF North Asia and Lithium Hydroxide CIF North Asia assessments.

The decision to launch these assessments comes on the back of consistent and growing market demand for increased pricing information in the lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide markets.

The assessments will be calculated from Platts existing Lithium Carbonate and Lithium Hydroxide CIF North Asia ($/mt) assessments and will take into account Chinese VAT of 16% in addition to port handling and inland transportation fees, which will be assessed on a weekly basis. Unit & currency of measurement will be Yuan per metric ton. Platts will launch these assessments on February 1, 2019.

In order to assess battery grade lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide, Platts will continue to collect a wide variety of transactional and market information through a survey of industry participants, which typically includes, but is not limited to, communicating with sources via phone, email and instant messaging.

These assessments will be published on Platts Metals Alert, page 8888 and in Metals Daily. The lithium carbonate import parity assessment will carry the code BATCP04, while the lithium hydroxide import parity assessment will carry the code BATHP04.
