Subscriber note: Platts to publish midpoints for LPG assessments

Platts proposes to publish midpoints for all LPG assessments globally, where they are not already published, with effect from March 1, 2013. This will bring Platts' propane, butane, ethane, and natural gasoline assessments into line with other Platts oil assessments, where midpoints are already published. As announced in June 2011, all midpoints will be published and databased to three decimal places, to ensure a high degree of accuracy, and will represent the average between the high and low of each market assessment published for the day. The high and low for each assessment will continue to be published, and will continue to be published to two decimal places only. Rounding shall follow typical mathematical conventions, where decimal points beyond the third place will be rounded up from five and higher, and rounded down from four and lower. Following the implementation of this change, Platts will additionally update its method of calculation for month-to-date averages, monthly averages, and weekly averages. All averages will be created by averaging each data point itself -- so the average high will be the average of the highs for the month or week; the average low will be the average of the lows for the month or week, and the average midpoint will be the average of the midpoints for the month or week. All averages will be published and databased to three decimal places. Please send feedback to oil@platts.com and pricegroup@platts.com.
