Platts is initiating a normalization factor for its FOB Newcastle 5,500 NAR 17-23% ash assessment.
Under its methodology, Platts considers ash content in the 17-23% range and normalizes to a standard specification of 20%.
Platts will begin publishing a differential, expressed in both a percentage and a $/mt value, for each 1 percentage point of ash within that standard 17-23% range.
This differential will be checked regularly and adjusted as needed as part of the standard daily assessment process to maintain its reflection of market values.
This differential will be published in Coal Trader International.
Launch date is scheduled for August 15, 2012.
