Exploration well encountered 48 m of net pay

Production to begin before end of 2024

To extend life of Harald offshore hub

France's TotalEnergies said Oct. 29 it discovered additional gas condensate resources at the Harald field in the Danish North Sea with a new exploration well.

Located in shallow waters 250 km off the west coast of Denmark, the HEMJ-1X well was drilled in the eastern part of Harald field and encountered 48 meters of net gas condensate pay in a good quality reservoir, TotalEnergies said.

The well will be immediately connected to the Harald platform and is expected to start producing before the end of the year through the existing Harald and Tyra facilities.

"This additional discovery at the Harald field will contribute to Danish energy supply by boosting our existing production in the North Sea," said Kevin McLachlan, a senior vice president at TotalEnergies.

TotalEnergies is the operator of the Danish Underground Consortium with a 43.2% working interest, alongside joint venture partners BlueNord (36.8%) and Nordsøfonden (20%).

In a separate statement Oct. 29, BlueNord said the preliminary results from the well were promising and the volume potential would be further assessed when production begins.

BlueNord Chief Operating Officer Miriam Lykke said pending further data and final results, the well is expected to increase production from the Harald field and extend the life of the Harald hub.

The company added the new well was expected to be brought on stream this year in connection with the Tyra ramp-up.

Tyra operations

Earlier this month, TotalEnergies said it now expects the recommissioned Tyra facility to ramp up to full capacity between Nov. 15 and Nov. 30, earlier than previously guided.

In a market transparency note Oct. 18, TotalEnergies said the ongoing commissioning of the Tyra facilities continued to progress, with repaired equipment now ready for transport to the offshore site.

"This is an important milestone in the remediation plan, where full technical capacity of the facilities is expected between Nov. 15 and Nov. 30, subject to weather and operational uncertainties," the company said.

Previously, TotalEnergies had guided for the ramp-up to full capacity to last until the end of 2024.

Tyra is Denmark's biggest gas field and resumed production in March this year after having been taken offline for redevelopment work in 2019.

However, technical issues were identified soon after in April, with TotalEnergies having since undertaken several actions to resolve the issues, pushing back the ramp-up period.
