EPH, GE Renewable Energy sign 300 MW onshore wind deals in Germany

Companies to install 50 turbines of 6 MW capacity

First construction to start in 2023

New onshore wind to boost Germany's energy transition

London — Czech energy company EPH and France-based GE Renewable Energy have signed purchase agreements to build 300 MW of onshore wind projects in Germany, EPH said April 13.

The deal will see the companies install 50 wind turbines of 6 MW installed capacity each.

"EPH is taking an active role in transforming the energy system. We seek real solutions of transition toward sustainable power generation. This is one of them," Tomas David, senior executive at EPH, said in a statement.

The partnership involves EP New Energies (EPNE) – EPH group's renewable energy developer.

"We are quite enthusiastic about being among the first to deploy 6 MW class wind turbines, one of the most modern turbine technologies on the market," said EPNE managing director Dominique Guillou.

"More so, as this deal is remarkable in its size in Germany. It puts us in the Premier League of wind project developers," he said.

The turbines will be installed at wind farms including the 100-MW Forst-Briesnig II in the federal state of Brandenburg.

The approval procedures for the projects will start as early as 2022, with the first construction to start in 2023, EPH said.

The signed contracts cover supply, installation and maintenance of the turbines, it said.

The latest plans are part of EPH group's renewable energy strategy to transform real estate capabilities and former open-cast mining areas by implementing onshore wind energy and photovoltaics.

EPH operates 1,500 MW of renewables and almost 1,000 MW of energy storage capacity through direct involvement and equity partnerships, it said.
