Refinery: Come by Chance, St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada
Owner: North Atlantic Refining Corp
Capacity: 135,000 b/d
Notes: Irving Oil will buy North Atlantic Refining Corp. and its Come by Chance refinery in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, from US investment firm Silverpeak at undisclosed terms, the companies said in a joint statement released Thursday.
"The agreement includes a 135,000 bpd refinery located in Come By Chance, NL, and a network of retail sites and other marketing assets," the statement said.
Privately held Irving Oil owns and operates Canada's largest refinery – the 330,000 b/d refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick. The purchase of Come by Chance gives it ownership of both refineries in the Atlantic Canada region.
Come by Chance shut operations in late March to adhere to public health recommendations to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
A company representative was not immediately available to comment on restart plans for the refinery.
