Iran seizes two Greek-flagged vessels in the Gulf
IRNA reports Delta Poseidon loaded cargo in Basra
Delta Tankers official unable to comment on report
Iran seized on May 27 two Greek-flagged oil tankers, one loaded with a cargo from Basra, according to a report by the official IRNA news agency.
According to the IRNA report, citing informed sources, Iranian forces took control of the Delta Poseidon oil tanker, owned by Athens-based Delta Tankers, after it had loaded a cargo in Basra and escorted the vessel to Iran.
An official from Delta Tankers was unable to comment immediately on the report of the seizure when called by the Platts news team at S&P Global Commodity Insights.
IRNA also reported a second Greek vessel named Prudent Warrior had been seized in Gulf waters by Iranian forces. Its status and owner were unknown at time of publication.
Iran has threatened previously to seize shipping in the Gulf where more than a fifth of the world's seaborne crude is loaded and shipped to global markets.
