Current progress towards achieving the goal of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming by minimizing carbon emissions has been slow, and the recent explosion of net-zero commitments from companies, financial institutions and countries provides welcome optimism. S&P Global research shows that major global companies are on track for >3ºC warming, falling 72% short of the required emissions reductions needed by 2025 to achieve the Paris Agreement goal of limiting global warming to well below 2, and preferably to 1.5ºC, compared to pre-industrial levels. At the same time, the physical risks of climate change are intensifying; 66% of these companies have at least one asset at high risk from the physical impacts of climate change, with the greatest risk deriving from water stress and wildfire.
This webinar, a Latin America and Carribean Climate Week Virtual Thematic Session, will review what the net-zero journey looks like for different market participants, how the private sector is financing the ambition and the key challenges and pitfalls in practice.
