Platts to revise average freight locations for US Midwest aluminum premium from Jan. 2

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will revise the list of US Midwest average freight locations included in its US Midwest Aluminum Transaction Premium assessment, in line with evolving market practice, effective Jan. 2, 2026.

In line with observed typical market practice, Platts will add four locations to the average-freight list for its US Midwest Aluminum Transaction Premium assessment, effective Jan. 2: Bowling Green and Guthrie, KY; Alcoa, TN; and Uhrichsville, OH.

Also, based on market feedback, Platts will remove two locations from the average-freight list, effective Jan. 2: Anderson, IN and Manitowoc, WI.

As a result of these changes, from January, Platts will consider the following as average-freight locations for inclusion in its US Midwest Aluminum Transaction Premium assessment (MMAKE00):

• Lafayette, IN
• Warrick, IN
• Uhrichsville, OH
• Shelbyville, KY
• Berea, KY
• Russellville, KY
• Bowling Green, KY
• Guthrie, KY
• Ravenswood, WV
• St. Louis, MO
• Alcoa, TN
• Huntington/New Johnsonville, TN
• Carthage, TN

Platts had first proposed changes to revise average-freight locations listed for its US Midwest aluminum premium assessment in a subscriber note published Nov. 26, available here.

Based on market feedback received and subject to further review, Platts will not add Davenport, IA, as an average-freight location from Jan. 2, as previously proposed.

This list of average-freight locations will be reviewed by Platts on an annual basis and updated depending on prevailing market dynamics and feedback. Any updates or changes to the list would be announced via additional subscriber notes as appropriate published by Platts.
