Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, clarifies that yearly and dynamic conventional EU Allowance charges for routes involving the Mediterranean Sea consider 0.5% sulfur content for voyages within this maritime area. EUA charges are one of the components, along with the Base Rates, for the conventional carbon-inclusive Base Rates.
In accordance with the Platts Base Rates methodology, the estimated carbon emissions and corresponding EUA charges per day of navigation within the Mediterranean Sea are detailed below:
| Estimated carbon emissions (mt CO2) | Estimated y early Conventional EUA Charge (USD/day) (*) | Dynamic Conventional EUA Charge (USD/day) | |
| Laden | 138 | $10,8 90 | Calculation based on:
|
| Ballast | 115 | $9,07 5 | |
| Loading | 32.06 | $2,5 30 | |
| Discharg e | 176.33 | $13,914 | |
| Idle | 16.03 | $1,26 5 |
(*) Yearly conventional EUA charge was estimated at $71.09 mt/CO2
The Carbon-Inclusive Base Rates, formerly Carbon-Accounted Base Rates, represent the round-trip cost of transporting liquid cargo (covering port expenses, total hire, fuel consumption, and EUA charges) expressed in US dollars per metric ton for the assessed routes, as detailed in the corresponding subscriber note:
Platts launches yearly, dynamic carbon-accounted base rates, EUA charges for assessed routes
Platts will issue a subscriber note to notify of any changes to the methodology related to the calculation of carbon-inclusive Base Rates, with respect to regulations from the International Maritime Organization and/or the EU.
