Platts to update Sunflower Oil Black Sea basis location, Nov. 16
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will update the basis location for its Sunflower Oil FOB Black Sea assessment (SFWBL00) from Ukraine's deep-sea ports to the Danube corridor ports of Izmail and Reni, effective Nov. 16, 2026.
The decision follows market feedback indicating reduced FOB trading activity at the deep-sea ports of Pivdennyi, Odesa and Chornomorsk (POC), amid ongoing security risks and elevated freight costs. At the same time, Platts has observed pricing indications and export flows through the Danube corridor.
Platts will continue to gather and publish pricing information from other relevant loading and delivery locations and may normalize such indications for inclusion in the assessment.
In the absence of sufficient pricing information from Izmail and Reni, Platts may consider pricing indications from other ports, including the POC deep-sea ports, and normalize them to the assessment basis.
Platts will also change the assessment volume from 3,000 metric tons to 1,000 mt to reflect the most commonly traded parcel size along the Danube route. Cargoes of other sizes may be considered in the assessment process and normalized to the new 1,000 mt basis volume.
Platts proposed the changes Oct. 22 in a subscriber note available here.
The assessment can be found in the Daily Grains and Biomass Based Diesel Reports, as well as on fixed page PAA1810.
