Platts launches Spanish Pork Feed Cost Indicator Nov. 2
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has launched a daily Spanish Pork Feed Cost Indicator (symbol SPCFI00), effective Nov. 2, 2026.
The calculation will compare the cost of key Spanish feed ingredients with the Platts Spanish pork assessment. It is intended to provide a transparent indication of the relationship between feed costs and pork belly values.
This launch was first proposed in a subscriber note on Sept .17, available here, and confirmed on Oct. 5, in a subscriber note available here.
The following existing Platts assessments and respective weightings will be used:
Feed basket :
30% - Soybean Meal EXW Tarragona (SMESE00);
70% - Corn EXW Tarragona (CESEU00);
Pork Cuts basket :
15% - EU Pork Marker (EUPML00) - Frozen pork belly, boneless and skinless, FCA Barcelona
25% - EU Pork Marker - Pork loin, Boneless, skinless, IVP, fresh, FCA Barcelona
20% - EU Pork Marker - Pork shoulder, 4D boneless, skinless, IVP, fresh, FCA Barcelona
40% - EU Pork Marker - Pork leg, 4D boneless, skinless, IVP, fresh, FCA Barcelona
The calculated indicator will be as follows:
Spanish Pork Feed Cost Indicator (%) = ([(Corn × 70%) + (Soybean Meal × 30%)] / [(Belly×15%)+(Loin×25%)+(Shoulder×20%)+(Leg × 40%)]) * 100%
The result will be published as a percentage, with a higher percentage indicating feed costs represent a greater share of pork belly value, while a lower percentage indicates feed costs represent a smaller share of pork belly value.
The calculation will reflect the relationship between assessed feed and pork prices at the time of publication, at 16:30 London timestamp, and follow the Platts London publishing schedule.
The assessments follow the Platts UK publishing calendar and will appear on the fixed pages under PAA0244 and PAA0805 in Platts Protein Daily and on Energy Core.
