SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts discontinues Stybarrow, Asian Heavy Sweet Crude Index

Platts has discontinued its assessments for Australia's Stybarrow crude with effect from November 2, 2015, following the shut-in and disconnection of the oil field.

Platts proposed this discontinuation in a subscriber note published August 13 (http://www.platts.com/subscriber-notes-details/27696786).

BHP Billiton shipped its final Stybarrow crude cargo in the last week of July from the oil field off Western Australia. The field, owned 50:50 by a joint venture between BHP Billiton and Woodside Petroleum, have produced a total of nearly 60 million barrels.

The field started up producing at close to 80,000 b/d, but output had fallen to 3,476 b/d by the first quarter of 2015, according to data from Woodside. The cessation of the Stybarrow field will be subject to an environment plan approval process by Australia's National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority.

With the discontinuation of Stybarrow crude, Platts has also discontinued the Asian Heavy Sweet (AHS) Crude Index with effect from November 2, 2015. The AHS composes an arithmetic average of assessments at Asian market close of Australian heavy sweet crude grades Enfield, Stybarrow and Vincent.
