Platts to extend expiration date for German THG assessments to June 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will amend the expiration date for its German greenhouse gas reduction quota (Treibhausgasminderungsquote, or THGs) assessments from April 15 to June 1, effective Nov. 9.

This change will align the methodology with the amended annual compliance deadline under Section 37c of the German Federal Immission Control Act. The June 1 deadline applies in the calendar year following the relevant compliance year.

Under the revised approach, Platts will assess the previous compliance-year vintage from the first UK publishing day in January through June 1, or the preceding UK publishing day if June 1 is not a UK publishing day.

Accordingly, in 2027, Platts will assess:

  • The 2026 vintage from Jan. 4 to June 1, 2027
  • The 2027 vintage throughout 2027
  • The 2028 vintage from November through December 2027

The affected assessments are:

Assessment Symbols Calendar codes
THG-Other (Previous Year) GTHOY01 GTO20XX
THG-Annex IX B (Previous Year) GANBY01 GAB20XX
THG-Conventional (Previous Year) GTCVY01 GTC20XX
THG-Advanced Single Counting (Previous Year) GASCY01 GA120XX

In the calendar codes such as GA120XX, XX refers to the calendar year. E.g., GA12026.

The assessments are published in Platts Biofuels Alert (PBF) on pages 1010, 1014 and 2008, and the Biofuelscan, Biomass-Based Diesel, Ethanol Weekly, Carbon Markets Daily reports.
