Platts to launch new calculated daily CME-basis US Aluminum Transaction Premium assessment

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will launch a new calculated daily CME-basis US Aluminum Transaction Premium assessment for P1020A aluminum, effective Dec. 1, 2026.

This new CME-basis premium assessment will provide a value for the daily premium or discount to the CME spot settlement price for physically deliverable minimum 99.7% high-grade P1020A aluminum, and will complement Platts existing US Midwest Aluminum Transaction Premium (MMAKE00), which reflects a daily premium or discount to the LME cash settlement price for spot physical P1020A aluminum. The methodology and specifications for the existing US Midwest Aluminum Transaction Premium (MMAKE00) will remain unchanged.

The new CME-basis premium will be derived by subtracting the CME front-month settlement price (ALI) from the LME-based Midwest Transaction price (MMAAF10), converted to cents/lb.

This calculated premium assessment will enable market participants to better understand the value of CME-based bids, offers and transactions, while also providing additional transparency in the Platts Market on Close assessment process. The CME-basis calculated premium assessment would have the same specifications as the existing US Aluminum Transaction Premium assessment and would be as follows:

Assessments Frequency Quality Quantity Dimensions Lot size Location Timing UoM Payment terms
CME-basis aluminum transaction premium Daily 99.7% P1020A 100-1,000 mt Ingot, low-profile sow or T-bars 25 mt US Midwest Within 7-30 days c/ lb Net-30

The daily calculated premium assessment, as well as related monthly averages and $/mt conversion, will appear in Metals Daily and Metals Week, on the PMA413 and MTL413 fixed pages, on S&P Global Energy Core and in the Platts pricing database.

The calculated premium assessment will follow an LME/CME holiday calendar and reflect a 4 pm US ET time stamp.

Platts to update calculation for Aluminum US All-in (Basis CME)

In addition, the calculation for the existing Aluminum US All-in Basis CME (ALINA00) will change to the sum of COMEX's physically deliverable aluminum (ALI) price, converted into cents/lb, and the new CME-basis premium.
