Platts proposes to discontinue daily 70kt Ventspils-to-Rotterdam coal freight assessment

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, proposes to discontinue the daily 70kt Dry Bulk Panamax coal freight assessment from Ventspils, Latvia to Rotterdam, Netherlands, effective Jan. 4, 2027.

The proposal reflects the absence of spot physical activity along the route, based on feedback from market participants and quantitative data from S&P Global Energy flow-tracking software.

Data from S&P Global Commodities at Sea covering January 2020 through December 2025 records approximately five coal shipments on Panamax vessels from Ventspils to Rotterdam and 58 shipments from the Baltic to Northwest Europe. No shipments were recorded in 2025.
