Platts proposes new weekly DAP Mexico aluminum alloy and wheels scrap assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, is proposing the launch of weekly Delivered at Place (DAP) price assessments for A380 and ADC12 aluminum alloys in Mexico's Bajío region, as well as clean aluminum wheels scrap in Northeast Mexico, effective the week of Nov. 9, 2026.

The proposed assessments would expand Platts' aluminum coverage in Mexico, which currently includes old cast, old sheet, UBC, Bare 6063 and Primary Aluminum P1020 CIF Veracruz. The new assessments would provide localized price references for the country's automotive, diecasting, recycling and secondary aluminum industries.

Mexico is a major automotive manufacturing hub and an important part of the North American supply chain. The Bajío region is a key center for vehicle assembly, auto-parts production, die casting and Tier 1 suppliers, making it a relevant location for delivered A380 and ADC12 alloy assessments.

Northeast Mexico is well-positioned for a clean aluminum wheels scrap assessment because of its proximity to recycling networks, secondary aluminum consumers and US-Mexico cross-border trade flows.

A DAP basis would reflect the delivered economics relevant to Mexican buyers and sellers, including inland freight, border logistics, regional supply and demand, import parity, local payment terms and competition among Mexican, US and overseas materials.

The proposed weekly assessments would follow the Mexican publishing calendar and reflect spot market information available up to the close of the assessment window at 4:30 pm US Eastern time.

In the event of a Monday holiday, the assessment would publish on the next business day in Mexico.

Platts would additionally publish monthly averages of the proposed assessments and calculated prices.

Platts spot price assessments consider market information reported to Platts and published throughout the day, including firm bids and offers, transactions, indications and any other data deemed relevant to the assessment process. Market information received before the relevant assessment time stamp would be considered for the weekly assessments.

The new assessments would be published on Platts Core, Platts Metals Alert fixed pages MTL0203 and PMA0203, Metals Daily, and the Platts price database.
