Platts to launch new Canadian hot-rolled coil steel sheet assessment

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will launch a new weekly hot-rolled coil (HRC) steel sheet price assessment for Canada, effective Nov. 6, 2026.

The new assessment complements existing Platts ferrous price assessments and reflects growing steel sheet capacity across North America, along with increased demand for regional price references from service centers, commercial construction, energy and auto sectors, among others. Negotiations regarding US-Canada trade policy and tariffs on Canadian steel imports have also increased the relevance of regional price assessments.

The new assessment will reflect HRC sheet grades purchased in 100-1,000-short ton parcels, basis FOB Canadian mill, for shipment within three to eight weeks. Platts would normalize quantities below 100 st and above 1,000 st.

Full assessment specifications will be as follows:

Assessment Quality Volume Dimensions Incoterm Timing Payment terms Unit
Canada HRC FOB mill ASTM A 1011-06a Commercial Type B 100 to 1,000 st W 48-72", T 0.083-0.37" FOB Canadian mill Shipment within 3 to 8 weeks Net-30 days after delivery CAD/st

The weekly Canadian HRC price assessment will be published on Fridays and timestamped to 2:30 pm US ET. Platts will also publish a conversion to the US dollar.

The assessment will be published on S&P Global Energy Core, on Platts Metals Alert fixed pages, in Platts Steel Business Briefing and Steel Price Report and in the Platts pricing database.
