Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, is proposing to expand its polyethylene (PE) CFR Brazil spot assessment coverage by launching new forward delivery assessments reflecting 71-100 days forward delivery, while also adjusting the existing assessments to reflect 40-70 days forward delivery, effective Nov. 18.

The proposed changes seek to reflect the growing market share of Middle Eastern, Egyptian, and Asian material being imported into Brazil. Market feedback has further indicated significant and growing differences in pricing dynamics between prompter and further forward delivery timings.

Based on market feedback, Platts understands that market participants consider forward deliveries to be 71-100 days forward and typically shipped from the Middle East, Egypt and Asia, while prompt deliveries are 40-70 days forward and are typically shipped from North America, Latin America and Europe.

Platts will consider merchantable open origin cargoes excluding duties for assessment purposes.

The proposed assessments would reflect seaborne material but may consider information outside the listed specifications including, but not limited to, pricing information on an FOB basis after normalization for assessment purposes.

The assessments would reflect the following major ports in Brazil: Santos, Itajai, Sao Francisco do Sul/Itapoa, Suape, Salvador, Navegantes and Paranaguá.

The proposed assessments would be published on Wednesdays at 1:30 PM (US Central Time) and follow the Brazil publishing calendar.

Based on the proposal, the assessments below would be updated to reflect a 40–70 days forward delivery timing.
