Platts opens consultation on West African crude Market Parity Price assessments

As part of its commitment to open and transparent pricing, Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, would like to invite feedback on its West African (WAF) crude Market Parity Price (MPP) assessments and methodology.

During this consultation period, Platts will review its full current suite of MPPs across West Africa. Since the launch of the first WAF crude MPPs in 2018, the suite of assessments has grown from six grades to 23 grades. As of September 2026, Platts assesses MPPs for grades from Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana and Nigeria.

The focus of the consultation includes, but is not limited to:

Cost and shipping assumptions incorporated in each grade's MPP model.
The basket(s) of comparable spot assessments used to adjust each MPP in line with market fundamentals.
Grades that are not currently assessed as MPPs that could be launched.
Current MPPs that are sufficiently liquid in the spot market to consider migrating to Platts' spot assessment methodology.

Platts currently uses two baskets defined by density to calculate the spot market adjustment for its MPPs using the following assessment codes:

Platts recently announced that two current MPPs, Amenam Blend and CJ Blend, will be migrated to spot assessments from Oct. 1, 2026. The relevant subscriber note can be found here.
