Platts proposes to launch daily FOB Indonesia aluminum premium assessment

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, is proposing to launch a new daily FOB Indonesia aluminum premium assessment, effective Nov. 2, 2026.

The proposed assessment would provide greater pricing transparency to the growing Indonesian trade flows and complement Platts' existing aluminum premium assessments in Asia.

Spot liquidity and export activity for primary aluminum ingots from Indonesia have increased steadily in recent years following expansions in smelting capacity in the country. Indonesia exported 386,321 metric tons of unwrought, non-alloyed aluminum in the first half of 2026, up 70.2% year over year, compared with a total of 511,178 mt exported in the full year 2025, according to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS).

Indonesia's aluminum smelting nameplate capacity is expected to reach 4.6 million mt/year by 2027, doubling from an estimated 2.26 million mt/year in 2026, and up 490% from 0.78 million mt/year in 2025, according to S&P Global Energy Horizons.

The proposed assessment would reflect the value of spot export cargoes of Indonesian-origin P1020 primary aluminum ingots on an FOB Indonesian basis, loading from the main Indonesian ports of Morowali, Weda Bay, Tanah Kuning and Surabaya.

The assessment would be expressed as a premium or discount to the daily London Metal Exchange (LME) cash settlement price for high-grade aluminum. It would reflect containerized shipments as the basis standard.

The proposed assessment would reflect the following specifications:

Assessment Quality Dimensions Volume Incoterm and location Timing Payment terms UOM
FOB Indonesia Aluminum Premium P1020A or 99.7%Minimum Al purity (Si 0.1% max, Fe 0.2% max) ingots 25 kg ingot, sows, T-bars 100-1,000 mt FOB major Indonesian ports: Morowali, Weda Bay, Tanah Kuning, and Surabaya Loading 7-30 days forward Prepayment, CAD, LC at sight or other prompt cash payment terms. Credit terms are excluded $/mt

Information reported on cargoes with specifications differing from those above may be normalized to Platts basis specifications, based on price differentials surveyed in the market.

Platts is seeking specific feedback as to whether a single port or all the proposed ports should form the basis of the location specification in its proposal, to which data points are normalized. This considers how, in the case where the specification contains several ports, freight differences for cargoes loading at each could give rise to differing FOB prices.

The proposed daily assessment would follow the Singapore publishing calendar and reflect spot market information up to the close of the assessment window at 4:30 pm Singapore (0930 GMT).

The assessment would be published in Metals Daily, Metals Weekly, on Platts Metals Alert on fixed pages PMA/MTL0107, PMA/MTL0108, PMA/MTL0419 and PMA/MTL0650 and in the Platts price database.
