Platts proposes to launch three FCA Barcelona pork assessments Nov. 2

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, proposes to launch three new weekly price assessments for fresh pork on an FCA Barcelona basis, effective Nov. 2, 2026.

The new assessments would provide benchmarks for fresh leg, loin and shoulder. They would complement the existing Platts "field-to-fork" coverage of protein and animal feed, which includes the EU Pork Marker representing sheet-ribbed frozen belly.

In addition to belly, the proposed assessments are the primal cuts for which processors, distributors and retailers have sought price benchmarks. They are mostly traded fresh within the EU, where 21.8 million metric tons of pork was produced in 2025, 80% of which was consumed domestically.

The proposed assessments are:

  • Pork Shoulder FCA Barcelona
  • Pork Loin FCA Barcelona
  • Pork Leg FCA Barcelona

Together with the belly, the three cuts typically represent over 85% of the carcass value from pork produced in the EU.

The proposed specifications would be as follows:
