Platts proposes to launch new Americas IFM carbon credit assessments, Nov 2

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, proposes to launch new price assessments for carbon credits originating from Improved Forest Management (IFM) projects in the Americas, effective Nov. 2, 2026.

The new assessments would capture a growing segment of the carbon credit market, in which Platts has observed increasing spot liquidity and evolving standardization. The assessments would also add further granularity to Platts coverage of carbon credits from nature-based solutions.

Platts proposes to launch new price assessments covering removals credits from IFM projects in Mexico, and avoidance and removals credits from projects in the United States. Both assessments would reflect credits holding a CCP (Core Carbon Principles) label.

CCP-labeled credits are issued from projects using methodologies approved by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) and which have been verified and tagged by approved certifiers as meeting high integrity standards for effective governance, transparency, tracking and robust independent third-party verification, as outlined under the ICVCM's Core Carbon Principles.

Platts invites feedback on the proposed new assessments and full specifications detailed below:
