Platts launches Mediterranean 0.1%S ultra-low sulfur fuel oil bunker assessments Sept. 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has launched daily 0.1%S ultra-low sulfur fuel oil (ULSFO) bunker assessments for the ports of Algeciras, Malta and Istanbul Sept. 1, 2026.

This follows an increase in demand for Emissions Control Area (ECA) compliant bunker fuel in the region, following the implementation of the Mediterranean ECA on May 1, 2025.

The parameters for the assessments will be as follows:

Specification: RMD 80 as per ISO 8217:2010, with a maximum sulfur content of 0.1%.

Size: 300-1,000 metric tons

Contract Basis: Delivered

Assessment Period: One to eight days forward

Currency and Unit of Measure: US dollars/metric ton

In addition to the daily assessments, Platts has also launched monthly averages for these assessments.

The new 0.1%S ultra-low sulfur fuel oil (ULSFO) bunker assessments are published to the following codes:

This launch follows a proposal note published May 28, 2026 and a decision note published Aug. 4, 2026.
