Platts to update SAF FOB Straits assessments to reflect CORSIA-certification Sept 1, 2026
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will update its daily FOB Straits neat sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) price assessments to reflect CORSIA-certified cargoes, effective Sept. 1, 2026.
Platts has observed increasing demand for pricing clarity for CORSIA-aligned, sustainability-certified SAF cargoes exported from the Straits of Malacca region. This has been driven by the impending transition to low-carbon fuels, in anticipation of mandatory Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) reporting from 2027 onwards.
Following market feedback since Platts first proposed this change July 20, Platts will update the assessment to reflect SAF cargoes that are RSB or ISCC certified. Both the ISCC and RSB CORSIA standards are recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), demonstrating compliance with CORSIA's sustainability and traceability criteria for SAF. Updating the assessment specification to reflect ISCC or RSB CORSIA-certified cargoes will align the assessments more closely with evolving market practices and sustainability requirements in the SAF market. ISCC EU-certified cargoes will be considered, but may be normalized.
In response to market feedback, Platts will also remove the existing exclusions on feedstocks for PFAD (palm fatty acid distillate) and Category 3 tallow, as both feedstocks are widely used in hydro-processed esters and fatty acids ( HEFA) SAF production in Asia and are considered as CORSIA-eligible feedstocks. However, Platts will not consider SAF produced from palm oil within the assessment.
The other specifications and terms of the SAF FOB Straits assessments will remain unchanged.
The assessments and the symbols that will be affected by this change are:

Platts SAF FOB China assessments, launched May 4, will continue to reflect ISCC-EU-certified cargoes. ISCC-CORSIA-certified cargoes are considered but may be normalized for assessment, and PFAD feedstocks are excluded from these assessments.
