Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, is proposing to update its daily FOB Straits neat sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) price assessments to reflect ISCC-CORSIA certified cargoes, effective Sept. 1, 2026.
Platts has observed increasing demand for pricing clarity for ISCC-CORSIA-certified SAF cargoes exported from the Straits of Malacca region. This has been driven by the impending transition to low-carbon fuels, in anticipation of mandatory Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) reporting from 2027 onward.
The proposed update to the ISCC-CORSIA standard would reaffirm Platts' commitment to drive pricing transparency in the region for SAF cargoes. The ISCC CORSIA standard, recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in 2020, demonstrates compliance with CORSIA's sustainability and traceability criteria for SAF.
The current Platts SAF FOB Straits assessments reflect ISCC EU-certified cargoes. ISCC-CORSIA-certified cargoes are considered after normalization. Under this proposal, the assessments would reflect ISCC CORSIA-certified cargoes and ISCC EU-certified cargoes would also be considered, but may be normalized. The other specifications and terms of the SAF FOB Straits assessments would remain unchanged.
Platts SAF FOB China assessments, launched on May 4, would continue to reflect ISCC-EU-certified cargoes , with ISCC-CORSIA-certified cargoes considered but may be normalized.
Simultaneously, Platts invites feedback from the market on the continued viability of a separate ISCC-EU-based price assessment, or a tradeable spread between ISCC-CORSIA and ISCC-EU-certified cargoes.
The assessments and the symbols that would be affected are:
