Platts expands its petcoke market reporting with CFR Brazil assessment

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has launched a CFR Brazil petroleum coke (petcoke) price assessment, effective Aug. 19, 2026.

The launch was first proposed in a subscriber note published on July 22, available here, and a decision was announced on July 22, in a note available here.

The specifications of the price assessment are as follows:

  • Frequency: Weekly - Wednesday
  • Timestamp: 11:00 ET
  • Volume: Cargoes of 10,000 mt or above
  • Location: US Gulf Coast origin
  • Grade: Sulfur range from 6% to 6.9%
  • Typical sulfur: 6.5%
  • Unit: $/metric ton

The new assessment and the corresponding monthly and quarterly averages are as follows:

Platts will also publish the monthly average for the assessment beginning Oct. 1 and the quarterly average beginning on Jan. 4, 2027. CFR Brazil cargoes of other grades, qualities and location origins may be normalized for assessment purposes. The assessment will follow the US holiday calendar. If a holiday falls on a Wednesday, it will be published on the previous non-holiday weekday.

The assessments can be found in the fixed pages GCI0960, GCN0960, and PGA0960, as well as in Coal Trader and Coal Trader International.
