Platts clarifies its methodology for its weekly molybdenum volume assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, clarifies the methodology process behind its weekly molybdenum volume publication.

Weekly molybdenum volumes were previously only available through Platts Metals Daily publication and were made available through Core on Aug. 3.

Platts calculates the total weekly traded volumes of molybdenum as part of the usual market reporting. Every deal, in all regions, counts for the total weekly volumes.

When both counterparties are known for any given deal, the deal will only be counted once.

Deals for which counterparties are partially known would be counted once.

Only first-hand, confirmed transactions count for the weekly molybdenum volumes. Second-hand deals are not counted.

The downloadable data for weekly molybdenum volumes can be found under the following names and symbols:

Platts reiterates the principle of anonymity related to the reporting of market activity, with all information related to counterparty names remaining confidential. Only the total volume traded on a given week is publicly available.
