Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will amend its methodology for assessing the scrubber premium index, PSSI for Supramax (ASCRS00), to better reflect the global scrubber premium on Supramax ships through a trade-flow weighted basis, effective Sept. 1.
Platts initially proposed to amend the PSSI assessment methodology in a proposal note published on July 16, available here.
Currently, the PSSI index is assessed as a simple average of the difference in time charter equivalent of scrubber-fitted and non-scrubber ships across the routes assessed by Platts for Supramax ships.
Platts will change the methodology for the PSSI assessment by considering the difference between the GSP 11S Index (AIDYB00, basis scrubber-fitted) and the GSP 11 Index (AIDYA00, basis bunker fuel 0.5%).
Since the indexes (GSP 11S and GSP 11) are global trade-flow weighted averages, the new scrubber premium index will better reflect the earning differential for scrubber-fitted ships. The change will also align the Supramax scrubber premium index methodology with that of the Capesize and Panamax segments, which were amended on Oct. 1, 2024, detailed in a subscriber note available here.
The PSSI assessment will follow a 4:30 pm London timestamp and appears in Platts Dry Freight Wire and Dry Freight Wire Monthly. The assessment will not be available when Singapore or London or both locations observe a national holiday.
