Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has increased the minimum greenhouse gas (GHG) savings level reflected in the Ethanol T2 FOB Rotterdam barge (AAYDT00) assessment, effective July 1.
Platts has decreased the maximum carbon intensity to 23.5 g carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per megajoule (MJ), equivalent to a minimum greenhouse gas saving of 75%, based on a fossil fuel comparator of 94 g CO2e/MJ under the European Commission's Renewable Energy Directive (RED) II framework.
This follows an announcement published Sept. 29, 2025, which followed a proposal published July 17, 2025, and was based on feedback received during a consultation period that extended from Aug. 27, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
Platts has also made the averaging of GHG savings across Proof of Sustainability (PoS) certificates standard until Dec. 31, 2028, to provide a timeline for transition to the minimum GHG increase. After this point, and dependent on market feedback, Platts may review PoS averaging to be extended further, provided it remains standard market practice following RED III implementation.
However, individual PoS certificates should not fall below 64.3% GHG savings, equivalent to a maximum CI of 33.52 g CO2e, for a minimum 75% GHG saving ethanol parcel, unless mutually agreed.
Full details on Platts T2 Ethanol assessment can be found in the Global Biofuels specifications guide available here.
