Platts clarifies iron ore publication process

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, would like to clarify its process for data publication as part of the iron ore price assessment methodology.

Platts assesses IODEX and related iron ore assessments using a sourced-data approach with a 1730 Singapore time stamp close, using reported bids, offers, trades and indicative values from market participants, published and market tested through headlines on S&P Global Energy Core and the real-time Platts Steel Alert.

While Platts has provided market participants the opportunity to express bids, offers or expressions of interest to trade as part of its Market on Close assessment process or direct, confirmed data for IODEX and other iron ore assessments, the process has been rarely utilized.

Accordingly, Platts will be updating Metals Timing and Increment Guidelines, removing the references to iron ore markets.
