Platts to continue monitoring European flat steel import specifications

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, continues to seek feedback on how the European flat steel import price assessments have adapted in response to the ongoing regulatory changes in Europe.

Platts initiated a consultation on April 10 seeking industry feedback on the specifications for the European flat steel import assessments, including hot-rolled coils, cold-rolled coils and plates on a CIF Antwerp and/or a CIF South Europe basis in response to a growing shift in incoterms since the implementation of the European Commission's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism's (CBAM) mandatory phase from Jan. 1, 2026.

In line with market feedback gathered during the consultation, Platts is not making any changes to the specifications of its European flat steel import assessments at this time, as more time is needed to understand how the market will coalesce around these changes.
