Platts clarifies Middle East liquid chemical freight assessments criteria amid shipping disruptions

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, in line with its assessment methodology, will consider related information such as alternative ports for liquid chemical freight assessments originating from the Middle East (basis Arabian Gulf) amid shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz following the conflict in the region.

Platts will utilize all available fixtures and market information within the region for assessment purposes and exercise judgment to prioritize information according to the methodology.

For example, pricing information for cargoes loading on a prompt basis in Sohar and Salalah ports in Oman, may be prioritized compared to information outside the specified specifications. Platts liquid chemical freight assessments reflect prompt fixtures.

Platts continues to review shipping restrictions and their impact on the market.
