Platts proposes changes to UAN, AN FOB Baltic; AN FOB Baltic/Black Sea nitrate fertilizer specifications July 3

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is proposing changes to the urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) and ammonium nitrate (AN) FOB Baltic, and the AN FOB Baltic/Black Sea nitrate fertilizer specifications, effective July 3, 2025.

Platts is proposing to launch a single number close value with standardized high and low ranges for the UAN and AN FOB Baltic assessments. Platts also proposes to narrow specifications such as quantity, basis and location for the assessments, to better reflect changes in trade flows, as evidenced by market feedback.

The proposed changes to the UAN and AN FOB Baltic nitrates assessments are outlined below:

Change in methodology for AN FOB Baltic/Black Sea range assessment

Simultaneously, Platts proposes to change the specifications of the existing AN FOB Baltic/Black Sea range assessment ( FANBA00 ) so they are adjusted to align with those of the proposed AN FOB Baltic and AN FOB Black Sea assessments.

The weekly FOB Baltic/ Black Sea AN assessment is currently published as a range with a low and high value. Under this proposal, the low and high of the existing AN FOB Baltic/ Black Sea would now be derived from the above proposed new single-number assessment for AN FOB Baltic, and the high or low of the AN FOB Black Sea range (FANBB04) , rather than being assessed in its own right. No new market information will be considered for the assessment of the range.

Please refer to the subscriber note proposing recent changes to the AN FOB Black Sea range here.

All the above assessments appear under respective symbols in the Nitrogen Fertilizer report, Platts Connect, and the Platts price database.
