Platts launches Australian Large-scale Generation price assessments March 30

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has launched daily Australia Large-scale Generation Certificate (LGC) price assessments, effective March 30, 2026.

This launch follows a decision note published on March 2, available here.

The launch responds to market feedback calling for greater price transparency in the Australian LGC market. The assessments complement Platts' existing coverage of Australia's energy transition and emissions markets, including the Platts Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) assessment suite.

The Australian LGC assessments reflect spot and forward certificate deliveries, with a minimum volume of 1 gigawatt-hour for Spot, Current-Year (Forward) and Year +1 to Year +3.

These assessments roll to the next vintages on Feb. 15 of each year, following the LGC surrender deadline set by the Australian Clean Energy Regulator (CER) on Feb. 14.

For example, the current Current-Year (Forward), assessed through Feb. 14, 2027, corresponds to CAL 26. The Current-Year (Forward) then rolls over to the next period, running from Feb. 15, 2027, to Feb. 14, 2028, which corresponds to CAL 27. Subsequent vintages will continue to roll over on Feb. 15 of each year.

Spot is defined as the latest available spot deliveries vintage for the LGC generated in the current calendar year.

Each LGC represents the environmental attributes of renewable electricity and corresponds to one megawatt-hour of electricity generated from renewable sources, as certified and recorded within the REC Registry under the Clean Energy Regulator of Australia.

The assessments are published in AUD/MWh at 4:30 pm Melbourne/Sydney/Canberra time, following the Penang holiday calendar.
